Lora is very kind and accepting. She relates to our stories on a personal level and really tries to gain understanding of our issues. She is very pleasant and engaged. She maintains a very safe, supportive group and enables respect and connection. Truly a bright light within the community.

Lora is an OUTSTANDING group leader. She is patient, engaging, compassionate, very knowledgeable, and gives great advice. She also has a nice voice that is calming to listen to. I will look forward to joining another group she leads in the future.

Lora spent the majority of the time talking about herself and her own experiences, giving very little space and time for any of the participants to receive support or make contributions. Several topics were brought up as things people requested help with, and only two of them were briefly mentioned. All participants signed off without notice until it was just Lora chatting with a regular group member and completely ignoring me, the only other participant left in the meeting. Also, a student observer logged on and Lora took a long time deciding if she should ask them to leave, even saying "It's not like anyone from NAMI would find out or be able to hunt you down." And, she consistently pronounced a participant's name wrong, despite being corrected several times. On top of all that, she repeatedly asked for specific diagnoses, dates, and medication names. Overall, I would say Lora was unprofessional and unsupportive, and I wish the participants would have had a chance to participate.

NAMI Minnesota

NAMI Minnesota champions justice, dignity and respect for all people affected by mental illnesses. Through education, support and advocacy we strive to eliminate the pervasive stigma of mental illnesses, affect positive changes in the mental health system, and increase the public and professional understanding of mental illnesses.

NAMI Minnesota offers many support groups for adults living with mental illnesses and their families. Our free support groups are led by trained volunteers with lived experience. Support groups provide a welcoming, respectful, and safe space to build awareness and understanding while learning from and connecting with others.  The two main populations we serve are adults living with mental illnesses and adults with loved ones who are living with mental illnesses.
