Certified Peer Supporter
Accepting New Connections
Hi all! I'm delighted to be on here as a peer support. I am excited to get to know you! I believe that people are braver and stronger than they realize and I want to help you find your strength and courage. We all have times of struggle-sometimes it feels never-ending- but struggling doesn't make us weak-struggles are what make us strong! If you are here, it's because you are brave and strong and you have not given up. So, WAY TO GO! You ROCK!
Willing to help others find local resources
Hi, I'm Erin. I live with a mood disorder and I work as a certified peer support counselor. I love meeting new people and I love to share the things that help me manage my mental health in a positive way with those who are struggling, newly diagnosed, or just looking for more support. I love reading and writing, music, animals, learning new things, and most of all- my family. My three beautiful children- two adopted from Colombia and one adopted from foster care. We have two dogs (my son says one and a half since the lab is big and the other is a chihuahua), and two hamsters. Now I can also add two guinea pigs! I live in Illinois, but I am from Washington state. I look forward to meeting you!
My Recovery Story
I have been stable for many years and I have worked as a peer support counselor/specialist for the past 8 years. I love the idea that I can provide peer support services privately and independently through this amazing website. I have learned how to manage my symptoms to make daily life bearable and enjoyable. I have also taught an IMR class- Ilness, Management and Recovery. Not only did I learn a great deal more about myself and how to manage my illness/symptoms, but I loved helping others find healthy ways to manage their illness/symptoms. I hope I can be of help to you, too.
My Motivation To Help
I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, type 1 at age 18. I have been through the struggles the illness brings, as well as other traumas. This has made me want to help others overcome their struggles, too. I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse as well as a traumatic sexual assault as a young adult. Because of my personal struggles with mental illness as well as PTSD, depression and anxiety, I desire to help others find joy and peace and live a life they never thought was possible. I have a life that is wonderful and I never imagined I would be where I am today.
