About this meeting
Are you a teenager struggling with body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs)? Please only register if you are a teenager 13-18 who identifies as having a Body Focused Repetitive Behavior such as: • Skin picking (dermatillomania / excoriation disorder)
• Hair pulling (trichotillomania)
• Nail biting (onychophagia)
• Cuticle biting (dermatophagia)
 • Cheek biting (morsicatio buccarum)
 • Other compulsive grooming behaviors Do you find yourself: • Picking or pulling without realizing it
 • Promising yourself you’ll stop — and feeling defeated
 • Hiding your hands, hair, or skin
 • Feeling shame or isolation around the behavior Know you are not alone. This is a facilitated BFRB support group specifically for teenagers age 13-18 (13-17 year olds must have parental consent and list a parent as an emergency contact per HP terms and conditions: https://www.heypeers.com/terms_and_conditions) The community is intentionally structured to foster compassion, confidentiality, and non-judgment while helping you understand your triggers, work with your sensory needs, and gently build healthier replacement habits. Clear group guidelines help protect the safety and respect of all members. What We Do in Meetings • Introductory check-ins
 • Identify emotional, environmental, and sensory triggers
 • Explore realistic replacement behaviors
 • Share what has (and hasn’t) worked
 • Behavior awareness and tracking discussion
 • Set small, achievable goals
 • Celebrate progress — not perfection Compulsive behaviors can feel powerful and automatic. Change doesn’t happen overnight — but consistent peer support and accountability helps make changes possible. As someone who personally recovered from decades of compulsive skin picking (including during my teen years), I understand how powerless and shameful this can feel. Today, as a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CMPSS), I use my lived experience to hold space for others navigating dermatillomania, trichotillomania, and related BFRBs. This space focuses on being heard, self-compassion, practical tools, and gentle accountability — not telling you just to stop. If you’re ready to feel less alone in your skin picking, hair pulling, or nail biting journey, join us. You deserve support. Support Options for Every Stage of Your Journey: First Monday of each month at 4:30 PM PT / 7:30 PM ET - 13-18 Teen-only meetings (please register at least 24 hours in advance, minimum 3 participants needed to run group, automatic refund if group is too small) Private chatroom avaible for participants to keep in touch between meetings, no sharing contact information as per HeyPeers policy. ✨ Teen and adult Free Community Meeting (Healthy, New, Habits)

About the host
I’m a certified peer support specialist and coach living in Southern California, I host support groups meetings on HeyPeers and also work one-on-one helping support peers with BFRB recovery and recovery from other compulsive behaviors, habits and unhelpful thoughts.  I identify as a neurodivergent woman and mother with ADHD, PMDD, and sensory differences. Since 2020 I’ve been in recovery from skin picking disorder (also known as dermatillomania and excoriation disorder). I’ve since learned that this compulsive habit is called BFRB - Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors. I believe in the power of community and have been attending various types of support groups since 2017. In my free time I like to craft with yarn and spend time outdoors hiking while looking for pretty rocks.
Motivation for help
After 4 years of successful recovery I knew I had enough recovery experience to be a helpful support for others struggling with compulsive habits. I decided to completed the training and testing to get my peer support certification, so I can be a productive helper from a place of lived experience. I’ve embraced my sensory needs and learned tools and strategies to stay recovered, and I love holding space for others to find their own healing and recovery. I’m inspired to share my message of hope for the possibility of a better future by facilitating groups and holding space for one-on-one support, as well as offering encouragement and accountability.
