A non-judgmental space to explore and share about your experience with BFRB, a space to heal if and when your are ready without pressure or expectations. Participants who have not checked in may be removed from the meeting. Please understand this group is for participants who identify. This support group is NOT open for observation or student clinical training. To make the meeting accessible to multiple time zones meetings will be held the 1st Wednesdays of the month at 4:30PM PST/7:30pm EST and 3rd Wednesdays of the month at 2:30PM PST/6:30PM EST (September will be pushed one week due to travel, please check HeyPeers.com current meeting schedule for details) Compulsive behaviors can feel too big to overcome, but I know it's possible to feel freedom again! I've learned to work with my sensory needs, and add in new habits to dilute the power of the old compulsive ones was ready to release. This is designed to be a judgment free zone to find community, feel supported while exploring and uncover solutions for compulsive skin picking (dermatillomania), hair pulling (Trichotillomania) or nail biting (onychophagia). As well as lesser known body focused repetitive behaviors like dermatophagia (cuticle biting), morsicatio buccarum (cheek biting) and those with other BFRB's. I hope to see you soon, you deserve support. Support Options for Every Stage of Your Journey: ✨ Free Community Meeting (Healthy, New, Habits)

Confidentiality * What is said here, stays here. This is our number one rule. Do not share anyone's name, story, or experiences outside of this group. You are always welcome to share your own insights and what you learned about yourself, but please do so without identifying any other members.
 2. One Mic / No Cross-Talk * Please listen when others are speaking. We avoid cross-talk—which means interrupting, giving unsolicited advice, or jumping in to tell your own story before the person has finished sharing.
 * We use a talking piece (even if it's virtual, we can use a verbal cue like "I'll hand the mic to...") to help with this.
 3. Share from Your Own Experience: Use "I" Statements * Please speak for yourself, not for others. We avoid phrases like "You should..." or "What you need to do is...".
 * Instead, try "I have found that..." or "In my experience, what worked for me was..." This keeps the focus on sharing your own journey, not directing someone else's.
 4. No Unsolicited Advice * This is a space for shared experience, not professional advice. We are not here to diagnose each other, prescribe treatments, or tell anyone what they must do. Our power is in listening, relating, and offering what has worked for us when it feels relevant.
 5. The Right to Pass * You are always welcome to share, and you are never required to. It is perfectly okay to say "I'd like to pass for now" if you don't feel like speaking. You are still a valued part of the group by being present and listening.
 6. Respect Differences * We all have different experiences, bodies, beliefs, and backgrounds. We may have different political views, religious beliefs, or medical choices. We agree to respect these differences.
 7. Be Kind to Yourself and Others * We are all doing the best we can. This is a judgment-free zone. We offer compassion and assume good intent. Please avoid criticizing yourself or others.
 8. Scope of Practice: This is Peer Support * A reminder that I am a Certified Peer Support Specialist, not a therapist or doctor. This group is for mutual support, not therapy or medical treatment. If you are in crisis, I can help connect you with resources, but please contact your healthcare provider or a crisis hotline (e.g., 988) for immediate professional help.
**Note: I am a mandated reporter for harm to self or others. 9. Logistics (Virtual Specific) * Please find a private space where you won't be overheard to protect everyone's confidentiality.
 * Mute your microphone when you are not speaking to reduce background noise.
 * Please be on time. To preserve the safety of the container, we may lock the virtual room 10 minutes after the start time.

About the host
I’m a certified peer support specialist and coach living in Southern California, I host support groups meetings on HeyPeers and also work one-on-one helping support peers with BFRB recovery and recovery from other compulsive behaviors, habits and unhelpful thoughts.  I identify as a neurodivergent woman and mother with ADHD, PMDD, and sensory differences. Since 2020 I’ve been in recovery from skin picking disorder (also known as dermatillomania and excoriation disorder). I’ve since learned that this compulsive habit is called BFRB - Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors. I believe in the power of community and have been attending various types of support groups since 2017. In my free time I like to craft with yarn and spend time outdoors hiking while looking for pretty rocks.
Motivation for help
After 4 years of successful recovery I knew I had enough recovery experience to be a helpful support for others struggling with compulsive habits. I decided to completed the training and testing to get my peer support certification, so I can be a productive helper from a place of lived experience. I’ve embraced my sensory needs and learned tools and strategies to stay recovered, and I love holding space for others to find their own healing and recovery. I’m inspired to share my message of hope for the possibility of a better future by facilitating groups and holding space for one-on-one support, as well as offering encouragement and accountability.
