About this meeting
Have you ever been told to "read the room," and didn't know what you did wrong? Have you struggled to start a conversation or felt like the conversation you were in was going off the rails? Or are you just feeling like you'r awkward when around others? Others have too, and you can learn those skills alongside them! In this 10 week skills-based series, you'll develop and practice social skills to help you feel more confident talking to and interacting with others.
About the host
I'm an African American, non-binary person living in Northern Colorado with my partner of 7 years and our 8 pets (and probably counting). I love interacting with others as well as balancing that with my personal self-care time. My self-care generally consists of gardening, creative writing, and doing anything related to Pokémon. Humor and music are big parts of my life and have helped me get through a lot. I play 6 instruments and I love to cook. Feel free to ask me more about myself!
Motivation for help
I've had a strong desire to work in the mental health and substance abuse field from my late teens-early twenties where I had the experience of meeting a child who was mentally and emotionally hurting. It helped me to build the desire to help those who are experiencing/reliving trauma and are being misunderstood. Over the years, I found that I can do more to help as a Peer Specialis/Coach because there is so much more that can be gained from the addition of someone who can attest to having similar experiences in the care team of those who are experiencing mental heath or substance abuse struggles. My desire to help people feel less alone and to help others live the lives they see themselves living is what motivates me to help from a Peer Support position.
