About Lauren

I serve as a CPSS in Northern New Hampshire for the Mobile Crisis Rapid Response Team since May 2022 and for the ACT team since May 2024. I very recently attained my Nation Certification as a Peer Specialist. My lived experience is with sucidality childhood trauma and domestic violence. I am a grandmother of five and I enjoy connecting with my natural surroundings to ground and humble me.

My Recovery Story

I grew up in a very divided family. A child of an adulterous affair with an alcoholic father that died when I was 17. I suffered abuse by extended family members and family friends for many years. My first marriage was rife with violence and “gaslighting” long before it was understood. Fortunately the marriage ended before I ended my own life after two solid attempts. I was disoriented overwhelmed and alone. My recovery included prayer and daily Bible reading where I found comfort and strength. I also was honest with friends (as I has no family) and they were an amazing source of comfort. With therapy and an adjustment in my lifestyle, including strong goals, I recovered, got my degree, travelled and spent time ‘dating myself’ to learn who I really was. Then I met my forever soulmate—the first man to treat me with real dignity, respect, and approach with genuine openness. I feel that being a peer is my chance to pay it forward and I have the privilege to be part of a team that is training all new Mobile Crisis employees in New Hampshire.

My Motivation To Help

Everyone and anyone can be a peer support. We all have experiences that we have lived through. What we do with that experience can make the difference between living in pain or cultivating resilience. I choose everyday to take my lived experiences and cultivate it into power to help others.
