About Kassandra
My name is Kassandra Figueroa, BS, NCPS. I am a professional with lived experience who has been on her recovery journey from mental health and substance use challenges for almost 7 years. I have worked hard in sustaining the changes I have made on a personal and professional level. I am a mother of 4, two who live outside the home and two who are in my household. I have gone through the justice experience, have had to navigate community resources to make things possible for myself, and have also understood the importance of person centered recovery. In my professional background, I have done direct peer support services, case management, supervised a team of peer supports and have been a trainer for continuing education support in the behavioral health workforce. I am a Nationally Certified Peer Specialist, Trauma Support Specialist, Forensic Peer Support Specialist, and have my Bachelors of Science in Counseling with an emphasis on chemical dependency.
My Recovery Story
I have made a 180 change! I have my bachelors of science in addiction counseling, I am a mother, a present daughter and granddaughter, a college who believes in growth, and a person who has had consistent progress over the last 7 years.
My Motivation To Help
My motivation to help is because I have seen first hand in peer support. A close friend of mine says, peer support is the special sauce for treatment. I can think back at moments where I was lost and really needed some insight from someone who had been through similar experiences. I still look back with gratitude to my mentors, peer supports and collogues along the way. We have the power by listening, being present, and expressing empathy to spark hope!
