About Jennifer
I am a Certified Washington State Peer Support counselor. I was first led to Peer Support work through both a series of very traumatic living situations and lack of family support which rendered me homeless. Not everyone has family that they can fall back on in times of crisis, and I was definitely one of those people. After a domestic abuse living situation I was in, I luckily found refuge in a transitional housing organization where I met a truly angelic housing coordinator. She was a knight for the people, and suggested to me that she thought I would be very good at Peer Support work. She provided me resources to get started on a program. Early on in my training I realized that this is what I wanted to do with my life. This is why I am here. Suddenly everything clicked for me, and I understood why I had faced so many struggles with housing. I have helped many individuals who are struggling with the anxiety and depression that comes from addiction, domestic abuse, and other mental health conditions that can worsen unstable living conditions and life struggles.
My Recovery Story
I am happy to say that I have finally found stable housing, and that my quality of life is much better now! I achieved this by staying in a homeless shelter, saving money for future housing, and completing financial budgeting classes to help me stay on track. It feels wonderful to finally be able to have my Emotional Support animal back also. The shelter would not allow cats there, and so she was in foster care for some time. I am truly grateful for the support and help that I received through the local resources where I live, which have enabled me to live a more comfortable life again. I am hear to tell you that it is possible!
My Motivation To Help
I want to help others who who are experiencing struggles with homelessness, anxiety, and depression. I have been through all of these things, and so I know first hand what isolation feels like when it seems like you have no one and nowhere else to turn. It is really important for me to be a beacon of hope for those going through darkness.
