About Chelsea
I’m a Certified Recovery Support Peer Specialist, Mental Health Peer Specialist, Certified Family Partner, and forensic peer specialist with a background in behavioral health, advocacy, training, and community support. Most of my work has centered around helping people navigate recovery, mental health challenges, re-entry, family systems, and disability-related advocacy with a trauma-informed and person-centered approach. Professionally, I’ve worked in both nonprofit and healthcare settings facilitating peer groups, coordinating services, mentoring individuals and families, and helping people connect to resources that genuinely improve quality of life. I’ve also trained peer professionals, spoken publicly on recovery and systemic issues, and helped develop wellness-focused programming grounded in empowerment, resilience, and social inclusion. Outside of work, I’m a mother to two boys, including a nonverbal autistic son who has taught me more about patience, advocacy, communication, and unconditional love than any classroom ever could. A lot of my passion for systems reform, accessibility, and psychological safety comes from lived experience — both personally and professionally. I’m also creative by nature. I enjoy designing murals, branding concepts, epoxy art, community awareness projects, and visual storytelling that connects people emotionally while still carrying a deeper message. I tend to gravitate toward projects that combine advocacy, humanity, and creativity in a way that feels authentic and impactful. At my core, I value resilience, honesty, inclusion, hope, and giving people dignity — especially during the moments when life has stripped it away from them.
My Recovery Story
My quality of life today is rooted much more in purpose, balance, and resilience than perfection. Life still comes with challenges, especially balancing caregiving, advocacy, work, and personal growth, but I’ve learned how important it is to build stability through support systems, boundaries, self-awareness, and community. I value the relationships in my life more deeply now, and I’ve gained a stronger sense of empathy, patience, and gratitude through both my personal and professional experiences.
My Motivation To Help
My motivation to help comes from lived experience. I’ve seen firsthand how powerful it can be when someone feels genuinely heard, supported, and believed in during difficult moments. I also know what it feels like to navigate systems that can sometimes feel overwhelming, isolating, or dismissive, especially when mental health, recovery, disability advocacy, or family challenges are involved. A big part of my motivation comes from being a mother and advocate for my son, as well as from my own personal and professional experiences in recovery and behavioral health spaces.
