I am a passionate about helping others who may be in a difficult life situation, involving drugs or alcohol. I am currently working in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation as a Peer Navigator. I really enjoy listening to people as they share their challenges with their current situation. Mental health is extremely important and understanding our past traumas is the beginning of our recovery journey.
My Recovery Story
My recovery was difficult at first, I truly did not know what to do without alcohol. I felt like I was missing a limb or some part of me, because I had been drinking for so long that everything I did outside of work was accompanied by alcohol. I had to stop hanging out with friends and skipping parties and family events where I would be tempted. After approximately 1 year, I was finally able to enjoy going out and attend events without feeling the urge. Now after six years without drinking, I am in the best physical and mental shape of my adult life.
My Motivation To Help
I was once lost and did not know where to turn for my recovery. After receiving professional help from someone who had gone through a similar experience, I realized what a huge difference it makes to speak with someone who understands your struggles. This is the reason I became a Peer Support Specialist.
