About Ashley

I'm a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) based in the Baltimore, MD area. I currently work as a Mobile Mentor at an alternative school supporting high-need youth. My background includes being a naloxone trainer, SBIRT, motivational interviewing, Mental Health First Aid, Maryland Crisis Response and Stabilization, along being a published writer and podcast host in the mental health space. I am an animal person and am a servant to my cat King Kevin. I play video games, have a sarcastic sense of humor when appropriate, and love to sing. I had a fashion career in my early 20's presenting my collection in New York Fashion Week 5 times, as well as being nominated for various fashion awards.

My Recovery Story

My recovery journey has been a wild ride, to say the least. From not wanting to live, to a suicide attempt, to stealing from others to maintain my addiction. Then I got better, then I fell off the wagon, I stood up, and fell again and again and dare I say again. I went through therapist after therapist, and dealt with unsupportive friends and family along the way. Today I'm at peace, and I've turned that experience into being a guiding light for others trying to walk out of the darkness that clouds the mind.

My Motivation To Help

Going through IOP, MA and AA meetings showed me how much community matters in understanding yourself. I'd always loved helping people, but it took time to realize I had to practice what I preach. I'd helped a lot of people find success while I was still struggling myself and I knew it was time to become the example, to help show others the path with them leading the way for what is best for them. I am in the position to do what I want to do and that is to support and mentor others. I have recently lost my best friend of 34 years (6/26/26), my grandmother, and I know how grief is while staying sober at the same time maintaining my mental illnesses. I have a great support system and mental health team and this is precisely why I continue to do peer work. My grandmother would help people even if we didn't have anything but now I realized that is what fueled her and now it is inherited in me.
