About the host
Hey Peer Participants! I look forward to seeing you in my CCI support group! I specialize in working with people living with chronic illness and their loved ones. My goal is to provide a professionally led, peer support group where you have a safe space to share your feelings, stories, resources, support and struggles with peers like you. I will offer expertise when needed . By day, I am a Senior Social Worker at VA Puget Sound in Seattle and Lakewood, WA, where I where I provide biopsychosocial care to Veterans with MS, ALS, stroke and other chronic conditions and their families/caregivers. By night, I have a part-time private practice, including my work with The Center for Chronic Illness. I graduated with a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in 1997 and a Master of Social Work in 2001 from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. I also volunteer when I can for the Veteran-based non-profit disaster response organization Team Rubicon as Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) trainer. When I'm not working, I'm practicing self-care or de-stressing by hanging out with my partner, my 19 year old cat Eloise, friends and family. Self-care to me is enjoying the NW outdoors on a hike, bicycle ride, or walk. I love doing yoga, rowing , and world travel. I recently bought an inflatable Stand-Up Paddleboard to beat the heat of summer paddling in lakes and in the Puget Sound. In September, I cycle for MS in the National MS Society Bike MS: Deception Pass Classic.

Working with Alica Sloan keeps me coming back each month. She listens very well. And displays a wonderful sense of compassion. {'am feeling more comfortable with my group supporters. And having someone you can call or email whom you have heard several times express themselves really makes communicating easier.

The Center for Chronic Illness (CCI) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization promoting well-being and decreasing isolation for those impacted by ongoing health challenges through support and education. CCI offers free, peer support groups facilitated by licensed mental health professionals and Master's level mental health interns. CCI's programs are designed to bring people together who live with different types of health challenges and diagnoses, recognizing the shared emotional experience of many who are impacted by chronic illness. Please note, because we are a Seattle-based organization, all support groups are scheduled on Pacific Standard Time (PST).

The Center for Chronic Illness provides support and education for those impacted by ongoing health challenges through our professionally-facilitated peer support groups. Although the information and support provided can be psycho-educational in nature, our support groups are not counseling or therapy groups, and we are not providing healthcare services. You should not use the information contained herein for diagnosing or treating any health condition. Participation in our facilitated peer support groups does not create a psychotherapist/patient relationship. You should always consult with a doctor and / or other health care professional for medical advice or information about diagnosis and treatment. If you are in a need of immediate medical attention or crisis support, please call 9-1-1 or the National Suicide Hotline at 1-(800) 273-8255 without delay.
