About this meeting
Depression robs us of many experiences in life. We want to have a sense of accomplishment through our actions, but we often feel unable to act. When we try to move forward, it feels like we are in slow motion. This can lead to stopping important tasks before we even get started. Depression affects not just our work, but can impact every part of our lives including how we think. Lack of getting things done when we’re depressed can diminish our sense of self which lowers our energy to face life. It’s a vicious cycle that we can end! This series of meetings are designed to help you move on with life, even when you’re depressed. Each meeting is a mixture of a drop-in support group and a book club based off of Julie A. Fast and Dr. John Preston’s book “Get It Done When You’re Depressed: 50 Strategies for Keeping Your Life on Track.” Each meeting will cover one easy to digest, life changing strategy to help you learn how to be more productive in the face of depression’s many obstacles. Group Leaders will guide participants through a reading of the strategy, an exercise and a discussion of the book’s key ideas in every session. There is also time to discuss your own experiences and get the help and support of other participants.

About the host
I am a certified peer specialist in Atlanta, GA and I love what I do! I am knowledgeable about support groups of all kinds and can support you on learning more about them-on heypeers. Currently I facilitate the Heypeers Certified meeting "Get It Done When You're Depressed, " and I co-facilitate the LGBTQ+ Wake-Up Narcolepsy group. I am taking a short break from scheduling 1:1 peer sessions but I aiming to resume them in December 2023. You can continue to send me connection requests and chats. Motivation for help
The last time I was hospitalized in a mental hospital, I was supported more by my peers than by the staff. Now, I want to give that support back to other peers.

Hundreds of my peers have been involved in a support group. I am doing this as an experience for my nursing course. One where we identify with the issue. I am diagnosed with depression and anxiety and was declined the opportunity to observe. When I requested to interact in the course I was declined the opportunity. Disgusting interaction. Thanks.

Update Your Profile

Get started by updating your profile. From your Account menu, choose Settings. Update information on all tabs: Account Info, Preferences, Subscription, and Notification Center. See Setting Up Your Profile for more help.

  • How to get to your Account - Settings: Click on Account

  • From a mobile device: Click on the Menu button (3 lines in top right-hand corner), then click on Account

  • Click on Settings

  • View Updating Email and Text Notifications for step-by-step instructions.

Registering for a Meeting

Next, search for meetings! You can search by topic, or organization, to find meetings that you would like to attend. See How To Find A Meeting and How To Register For A Meeting for more help.

Before Your First Meeting

Make sure your device is up to date and ready for your first meeting!

My Meetings Tab

Go to your My Meetings tab to see registered, waitlisted and past meetings. You can also join and cancel meeting registrations from there. See How To Join A Meeting for more help.

Top 3 Tips During a HeyPeers Meeting

See Tips for the Best Video Meeting Experience

  • Set your video to "Speaker view" instead of "Grid view" when you are in a meeting.

  • Remove image or blurred background settings on your video if you are experiencing sound or video issues in a meeting.

  • Set browser view to "Actual Size" (100%). See section Browser "View" Settings for further instructions.
