About this meeting
Caring for a family member living with paralysis can present many challenges, whether your family member is newly paralyzed or you have been a caregiver for years. These meetings will provide an opportunity for group members to gain insight, guidance and support from others who understand what they are going through. Meetings are conducted in an open forum/conversational format and members are encouraged to raise topics and ask questions related to caregiving that are of interest or concern to them. This meeting is open specifically to family members and caregivers of people living with paralysis.

 Mission

The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by advancing innovative research and improving quality of life for individuals and families impacted by paralysis.

Paralysis Resource Center

The Reeve Foundation's National Paralysis Resource Center is a free, comprehensive, national source of information and support for people living with paralysis and their family members/caregivers.  The National Paralysis Resource Center offers a variety of services and resources, including a team of Information Specialists trained to help individuals living with paralysis and their families locate information and resources; a national peer-to-peer mentoring program; a military and veterans program designed to support the needs of current service members and veterans; and the Paralysis Resource Guide, a free 442-page book that is a comprehensive, illustrated information tool for people affected by paralysis and for those who care for them.

Support Groups

The Reeve Foundation's Living with Paralysis and Caring for a Family Member Living with Paralysis support groups provide an opportunity for members to connect with others who understand what they are going through and to gain support, insight and guidance. Separate groups are held for individuals living with quadriplegia, those living with paraplegia, and family members/caregivers so that meetings can focus on the unique needs and challenges of each.  Group meetings are led by two facilitators: a mental health professional and a peer with lived experience.

Disclaimer

The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation’s support groups provide support and education for individuals living with paralysis and their family members/caregivers.  These groups are led by a team of two facilitators: a mental health professional and a peer with lived experience.  While the support groups can provide psychoeducational information and support, they do not provide any type of clinical or therapeutic services, interventions or treatments nor do they provide diagnosis of any type of mental or physical condition.  Please consult with your physician or other appropriate medical or mental health professional before making any changes to your medical or mental health care or routines based on discussions held in the support groups.  If you are having thoughts of harming yourself or others or thoughts of suicide, please call 911 or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.
