About the host
Hi, my name is Vanessa, and I am a Peer Support Specialist. My lived experiences include but are not limited to a journey of recovery from substance and alcohol use, navigating life after incarceration, adoption, pregnancy, single parenting, postpartum challenges, navigating through breakups and toxic relationships, surviving domestic violence and being stalked, overcoming infidelity, grief from losing my soul mate to suicide while he was in custody, witnessing the tragic suicide of a close friend, being involved in a fatal accident, and enduring the devastating loss of my oldest son to fentanyl. I have walked a path filled with challenges, and through these experiences, I have found strength, resilience, and a deep empathy for others facing similar struggles. As a Peer Support Specialist, I am here to support you. My journey has taught me the profound importance of connection, understanding, and the power of shared experiences. Together, we can navigate through difficult times, find hope in moments of despair, and build a path forward toward healing and resilience. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey. I look forward to supporting you and walking alongside you as we navigate life's challenges together. Vanessa
Motivation for help
Losing my soul mate and my very close friend both to suicide is what lead me in the direction of Peer Support. My passion to support others only intensified as I experienced a traumatic accident followed by my fathers death and shortly after my son's.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Support Groups

Washington State

September 2024 Update: The Washington Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) is working diligently with HeyPeers to continue offering virtual support groups for those who have experienced a traumatic brain injury.  Virtual support groups are temporarily on hold but will be available soon.  We know these support groups are an important part of connection, education, and engagement for the TBI community and appreciate your understanding as we get them up and running again.  If you have any questions, please email dru.aubert@dshs.wa.gov.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Strategic Partnership Advisory Council of Washington State provides Support Groups through the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) that emphasize connection, education, and engagement in life after sustaining a TBI.

Our Support Groups are predicated on the concept of a person-centered approach that can aid in the development of long-term knowledge and generic problem-solving skills to help attendees overcome barriers to sustaining a fulfilling life.

These Support Groups may provide a therapeutic effect, but they do not provide therapy and instead focus on delivering organized bodies of knowledge and resources for the betterment of attendees.
