About the host
Hi there, I'm teaching and researching autism and schizophrenia at Lancaster University in the UK, but I'm really just a Native American from Canada with an odd academic trajectory. I'm leading an online support group for the S&PAA, and anyone living with autism or schizophrenia, or anyone caring for someone on the autism-schizophrenia spectrum is very welcome to join: - I'm the author of a book on Translation and Mental Health forthcoming from Edinburgh University Press (my book offers a comparative analysis of literary works by famous modernist writers-translators who experienced mental health disorders, and who weren't afraid to come out at times when it was even more difficult to say so! It's the first book theorizing translation as a powerful form of introspection impacting mental health; - At the University, I'm Lead Reviewer of the Research Ethics Committee: I review research applications on politically sensitive topics or involving vulnerable users such as children or patients with disabilities, so I'm used to lead groups and provide ethical advice in tough situations; - AND I have family members living with schizophrenia, so I really know how it affects people's daily lives, but also the challenges it brings about for friends and family. I also know how these can sometimes be overcome. Looking forward to meeting you, talking with you, and helping you in any way I can! Dr V. Lane
