Motivation for help
During the pandemic, I witnessed my son's struggles with his mental health. This impacted our whole family. We tried to get help, but our pleas fell on deaf ears. My family experienced a horrific incident which resulted in significant injuries and property damage before we received the assistance we needed. During this time, I struggled with my own mental health. I found the support I received from peers to be an invaluable part of my recovery. I wanted to use my lived experience to help others struggling with their mental health.

NAMI Minnesota champions justice, dignity and respect for all people affected by mental illnesses. Through education, support and advocacy we strive to eliminate the pervasive stigma of mental illnesses, affect positive changes in the mental health system, and increase the public and professional understanding of mental illnesses.

NAMI Minnesota offers many support groups for adults living with mental illnesses and their families. Our free support groups are led by trained volunteers with lived experience. Support groups provide a welcoming, respectful, and safe space to build awareness and understanding while learning from and connecting with others.  The two main populations we serve are adults living with mental illnesses and adults with loved ones who are living with mental illnesses.
