About this meeting
Over 90% of a willow tree's roots live in the top 18 to 36 inches of ground. They bend, bow, maybe lose a branch or two during a storm yet they remain standing with flexibility and resilience. This group will be about tapping into the strengths you already have and sharing them, not by giving advice but by offering shared experiences and perspectives. It will be about navigating unexpected shifts, challenging moments and situations that can affect our mood and our recovery. This will be a supportive space for all. As a group we will focus on what is working, coming from the guiding perspective "I have everything I need to get through this". Some housekeeping: Please arrive a fifteen minutes before so we can start the group on time, no one will be admitted ten minutes after the hour. If you are unable to attend, please unregister so those on waitlist have an opportunity to attend. Check In, please be prepared to have your video on during your check in, it will help to create a supportive space.

About the host
I enjoy coffee, in the mornings with some quiet time for reflection. I believe we grow and heal together, living in our humanity and not being reduced to numbers and dollar signs. I've learned from some of the best pioneers of peer support, from Sheri Mead and Chris Hanson of Intentional Peer Support, Mary Ellen Copeland of WRAP, Celia Brown, Darby Penney, Phil Hall, Kevin Healey, Rae Waddingham, Gabor Mate, Bill Gamble, Isaac Brown, so many others. This journey of continuous learning, healing, understanding the influence of deep wounds (some call it trauma) of past has brought me to this place of support that Hey Peers provides. Some life stuff, abandonment, adoption, physical and emotional harm, substance use and recovery, Hep C and treatment, psychiatric system, heart surgery, parenthood & more. I am incredibly thankful to have learned how to treat myself with kindness, respect and awareness of what works for me. I love the connection that peer support gives; being with others who understand helps me navigate both the heaviness and the joys of life. You are here now, in this space of support with many phenomenal certified peer facilitators, welcome!
Motivation for help
Dark times brings dark memories and isolation for me. I know many others experience the same. Having people who get it, having connection, someone to hold space, so important!
