Biography
I am 64 years old. I’m married and have 2 adult children. I’m a nationally and state certified peer support specialist. I have struggled with depression and anxiety for many years. Fourteen years ago, I tried to end my life by suicide. My journey since that time has involved tremendous work. Along with regular therapy, I’ve gone through E.M.D.R. therapy which was a major turning point for me. Currently I am taking the second of three DBT courses. I’m learning so many valuable skills in emotion regulation, among other great tools. Both of my children have histories of different mental health challenges. My son was diagnosed with autism as a young teen. However, his difficulties with ADHD created struggles for him as a toddler and continued on through elementary school. With my own mental health journey and that of my children, I have learned so many life lessons. My work in peer support has brought immense satisfaction and joy.
