About Heather

Hi, my name is Heather Saunders. I am a certified recovery support specialist who loves painting, writing, cooking and going out in nature.

My Recovery Story

Recovery hasn't been easy but it has been one of the best things I ever did for myself. I am someone who had mental health along with physical, medical and developmental challenges. Over the years I struggled due to crippling depression and anxiety along with other factors to have a desire to live. I fought for years with suicidal thoughts and I now am in long term recovery. My last attempt was May 27, 2018. I now have found my purpose and will to live. These range from being an aunt to an amazing niece, finding joy in creativity that I can share with the world, along the with finding fulfillment in guiding those who are trying to find strength themselves that is deep within them even if they don't see it themselves. I didn't see my strength in the beginning of my recovery but now I see how resilient I actually am. I am strong, determined, insightful and will conquer what comes my way. Please know I'll believe in you when you cannot see it possible to do yourself.

My Motivation To Help

My motivation to help stems from not receiving adequate services myself throughout my recovery. I didn't always feel understood or heard or seen for who I really was, a person who was struggling but not a person who is a lost cause. Everyone deserves second, third and more chances to recover and unfortunately those without the services they need don't always get those chances. I want to help change that. I want to be a ear that you can talk things out ask for guidance, support and empathy. You deserve to have a fulfilling life and I want to help you get there.

"Heather was an amazing group leader. She was kind, professional, empathetic, and my session with her really was the highlight of my day. Heather also provided me with some super helpful advice and coping mechanisms (that I hadn't heard of before). It was so nice to spend time with people face to face (even if it was virtual), and I felt much less alone in dealing with my chronic illness after. I'm so grateful for Heather's time and I highly recommend signing up for one of her sessions (it's worth the session fee, if you can manage it). I'll be signing up again and would love to make more friends with other spoonies via Heather's sessions."

"She tried hard to stay connected with me, however, there was no connection. I think that she told me that I was in her third group one person each time. I was unsure what to expect but I will not return."
