About Megan
Hi my Name is Megan I am a state certified peer specialist and have also been a caregiver. Living with a mood disorder can be stressful on top of “regular” life. My goal is to provide support, skills and resources in a safe space for peers. A place they can be heard no matter what stage a peer is in on their journey of life. Community is the heart of healing. We do recover as long as there is hope. “Genius and insanity are closer than they seem, your perspective is the difference between your nightmares and your dreams” IN-Q page 72 from the book Inquire Within
My Recovery Story
My recovery journey has been a long one and never stops. I went from using substances to cope to now on prescribed medication that helps me stay grounded, personality/coping skills that reconnected me with who I am as a whole. I made a choice to enter into supportive housing temporarily to get my life back on track. Although I am not where I want to be, I am exactly where I am supposed to be.
My Motivation To Help
I struggled with depression on and off since the age of 13. It became progressively worse at the age of 16-mid twenties when I finally checked myself into the hospital for suicidal ideation. My motivation to help is to help bridge the 10 year plus gap of a misdiagnosis regarding bipolar 2 disorder which from my experience presented as depression and generalized anxiety. To decrease stigma by reframing what bipolar is as a gift rather than a mental illness. If you nurture your mental wellness, it decreases your risk of mental illness. Promoting confidence and self advocacy is important to me.
