Accepting New Connections

I live and operate by the motto:“Meet everyone where they are at” and with that comes deep acceptance where there’s no room for judgement. I am here to encourage you and to help you build up an arsenal of tools to use to help cope with any of a number of challenges you maybe facing. Mostly, I am here to LISTEN and if asked, to provide any feedback that you may want based on my own personal experiences.

About Taamer Refaat

Biography

My name is Taamer and I am a Licensed Peer Support Specialist. I started this journey by attending peer support groups through Project Return Peer Support Network (PRPSN) when I was struggling with a number of simultaneous crisis, including becoming the “only” parent to my 13 year old daughter, who lost her mother to cancer during that time period. I went into survival mode and I was unable to function in a healthy manner and ruined a relationship with someone I deeply loved. I couldn’t find any resources as much as I looked for help. Therapists weren’t taking new patients or they wouldn’t take my insurance…Then by chance, I came across PRPSN and their free support groups. I attended many of them which would eventually lead to me applying for and completing their training and internship program to become a trained (and now a licensed) Peer Support Specialist. I created 2 (free) groups that I currently facilitate/ host “Dealing with Anger” on Mondays at 9am PST and “Dealing with Relationship Challenges” on Wednesdays at 9am PST. They are both listed on the heypeers platform. From the home page, under the meetings tab, type in the name of the group(s) above in the search bar and you will see the groups pop up, where you can click on “register” to attend.

My Recovery Story

I am in a really good place and my past experiences has shown me that when I am comfortable and things are good that if I neglect taking care of myself or if I feel like I don’t need to continually work on myself, that eventually leads to my decline. That is why I believe recovery for me will never end. I embrace the process and always continue to grow and focus on being a better version of myself everyday.

My Motivation To Help

I have struggled for many years dealing with numerous mental health challenges including depression, anxiety and ADHD. I’ve been through bitter divorce and lots of anger, chronic illness and pain, relationship issues, an extremely toxic parent and cancer has taken 2 of the closest people to me. This is just a small list of examples. I came to realize that nobody was going to come in and fix these problems and there is / was no magic pill that takes it all away. When I finally surrendered trying to control everything, my life changed. I want to help you take back your life!
