My Recovery Story

As a Black woman diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder, I hope my journey with dissociation will help people of color and those with black and brown bodies to share their experiences and know that we are not alone. I have been very fortunate to find mental health treatment that has greatly aided in my own recovery. Because of my treatment I am able to experience the world holistically. I can finally can say that I feel at peace and relief from the overwhelming feelings of shame and fear. My recovery has shown me that human beings are all worthy of happiness, success, joy, and recovery.. I am so grateful to be on this side of journery and goals in life include incorporating this kind of work in my life.

My Motivation To Help

My motivation to help comes from my own experiences with my mother and daughter both diagnosed with schizophrenia. I grew up with the chaos of a mental health disorder in my family and many firsthand experiences of traumas in my own right. But as a Black woman, I see and understand the importance of creating spaces for Black, Indigenous, People of Color who experience disassociative identities. I believe that special care should be taken in regards to treatment and understanding. I would love to help provide and create those spaces.
