About this meeting
This meeting is a space where people can learn how to best support other person who is using substances and/or is in recovery. We focus on practical skills, resources, and new ways of thinking to help empower loved ones with the information and mindsets that are most conducive to wellness for their loved ones... and themselves! Participants are welcome to keep their cameras off for comfort and anonymity and to participate in the group discussion as much or as little as they would like.

About the host
I am a senior and a veteran of the U.S. Army. I am a peer, diagnosed for 30 years after a TBI. I am also a disabled Paramedic/Firefighter. I have been a volunteer with NAMI for over 10 years, and a WRAP facilitator. I have been an NC Certified Peer Support Specialist for 6 years, specializing in trauma and suicide. I am Living Works Asist certified. I have lived experience in a broad range of diagnoses of mental illness. I am currently becoming certified as a peer support specialist for older adults. I have been a facilitator of support groups for over 6 years. I am a great advocate for taking personal responsibility for your care. I believe we all can not only survive our pasts and traumas, but we can thrive! A better quality of life is a right, not a privilege. We all have the right to have full access to the care we need as humans to live.
Motivation for help
I believe all have the ability to thrive, not just survive with the right opportunity. I want to be that opportunity.

I was late, and wasn’t let into this meeting; but I wish I would’ve been. I’m really struggling with grief from Mother’s Day and needed support some 💔

Nancy is an inclusive and kind group leader. I appreciate this group because it helps me to hand in there and not feel alone. Thank you for making this group possible online because I am not able to attend an in-person support group.
