DetailsAbout Sarah
It’s hard to explain what it’s like when your mental health and physical pain collide. Living with both mental health challenges and chronic pain can feel overwhelming in a way that’s hard to explain to others. I have personal experience with anxiety, depression, and fibromyalgia, which has taught me how important it is to feel truly understood—not just listened to. Along the way, I’ve also facilitated peer support groups through NAMI Greater Houston and serve as a lay chaplain, which deepened my ability to sit with people in difficult, very real moments without trying to “fix” them. As a peer supporter, I offer a space where you can show up exactly as you are, without pressure to have answers or “be okay.” If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or alone in what you're going through, I’m here to support you.
My Recovery Story
I've had a long road figuring out my life as someone diagnosed with a mental health condition, but I can say that now my days are easier to handle than in the past. I currently see a therapist for talk therapy, a psychiatrist for medication management, a dietician for nutritional guidance; in addition to that, I enjoy walking with my dogs in my neighborhood or the local parks to get exercise and be out in nature, I like gardening, watching tv & movies, and meeting new people from different walks of life.
My Motivation To Help
I want to help my fellow peers because I know what it's like to navigate my mental health condition without support - it's tough and lonely. Volunteering and becoming a Mental Health Peer Specialist has given me the knowledge and strength to be that person to walk alongside another in their journey and let them know you can live the life you want with a mental health condition.
