Certified Peer Supporter
Hey there! I'm Gavin and I'm from Portland OR and I have been doing peer work for a little under 2 years now. I previously worked with youth; however, I am open to expanding my horizons and helping where I can. I have lived experience with addiction and recovery, grief and loss, coming from a dysfunctional household, suicidal ideation, trauma and mental illness. I’m a big gamer and I like playing Magic the Gathering, building/playing Warhammer 40K, I also enjoy hiking and working on being more spiritual.

I am a passionate about helping others who may be in a difficult life situation, involving drugs or alcohol. I am currently working in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation as a Peer Navigator. I really enjoy listening to people as they share their challenges with their current situation. Iman A.
Certified Peer Supporter
Hi, I'm Iman. I believe deeply in the healing power of connection and in the idea that no one should have to face life's challenges alone. My life has been shaped by grief and loss, trauma, gun violence, domestic violence, mental health challenges, addiction, poverty, housing instability, criminal justice involvement, parenting struggles, caregiver burnout, and navigating life as a refugee of the Gulf War. I have also experienced the profound losses of both my husband and my son. These experiences have taught me resilience, compassion, and the importance of having people who truly listen. They have also shown me that healing isn't about having all the answers—it's about finding support, connection, and hope, even in life's most difficult moments. Today, I dedicate my life to helping others. Through peer support, mental health advocacy, support groups, family education, community outreach, and my nonprofit, Keem's Dream, I work to create spaces where people feel seen, heard, and supported. People often tell me they feel comfortable opening up to me because I create a safe, nonjudgmental environment where they can be honest about what they're carrying. I don't believe in fixing people. I believe in listening with empathy, sharing hope, connecting people to resources, and walking alongside them as they discover their own strength. When I'm not working, you'll usually find me spending time with my family, solving puzzles, watching movies, trying new foods, or hanging out with my Yorkie.

I know from personal experience what it is like to deal with chronic illness, pain management issues, emotional trauma caused by physical and emotional abuse because I deal with those issues myself so I know what that is like. I deal those problems, though I take a victor not a victim approach meaning that yes I deal those issues, but I survived those issues I am working through those issues. Yes I am dealing with those issues, and I am overcoming those issues that I am struggling with but that's a process. I am a victor over those issues I have survived those issues, I am not a victim of those issues, yes I am actively through a process orientation process overcoming those issues. I also believe what was meant for our harm God will turn to our good even if that's just learning from the things that we have dealt with as it pertains to what has happened to us. I take a process orientation approach to moving towards emotional, physical and spiritual wholeness in my life, but I don't beat myself up if I fall short . This is because I believe in as the old saying goes it takes time and effort to heal. I am a profound believer and practitioner of and in the Traditional Healthcare Worker and Peer Wellness Specialist Modality and Scope of practice of Peer Support. I am also a profound believer, and practitioner of the idea of the practice approach of what my roles is a source of emotional support that I am here to help others help themselves. This is about you, not me this is about your self directed process towards emotional, physical and spiritual wholeness process in your life. That is based on what you think that looks like I am only here to facilitate you back to yourself to help you help yourself. I am not here to tell you what your path and journey is or what that looks like. I am not here to tell what your path and journey towards dealing with and recovering from your issues looks like I am here to just provide emotional support for you and I only give you my perspective if you sincerely want that information. I am here to facilitate you back to yourself in the way that you want that done I am here to help you with what you want me to help you with. I am not here to tell you how to do things I am here to walk this journey alongside of you, but only if you sincerely want to know what my approach towards lives challenges is then I will tell you, but that's for you to decide what works for you. I can talk about my approach if you ask me but its for you to decide what approach works for you. I also specialize in chronic pain management, trauma informed care, and helping people of sexual orientation, and HIV health management. More about me I am also a National Congressional Scholar, so I also have a common sense, life lived, yet scholarly approach to things in general.
